A NeoGAF user has painstakingly pieced together details of the canceled Legacy of Kain game, The Dark Prophecy. The game was being developed in 2004 by Eidos and Ritual Entertainment, but fell victim to the axe before it could be completed. Now a huge amount of information has been recovered.

It would seem that The Dark Prophecy‘s story was due to center around two different time periods, one featuring a tyrannical Kain from the past, one featuring the modern day Kain. The vampire would also regain his transformation power, as first seen in the original Legacy of Kain. The Dire Wolf form would return, along with a Dire White Wolf and a monstrous “beast” form.

A ludicrous amount of art and screens have also been posted, which you can check out below. It looks like it could have been a pretty cool game, and speaking as a fan of the Kain character, I’m sad this wasn’t finished. Ah well, maybe Kain will rear his ugly head again someday.

The procedurally generated action adventure platformer—not to be confused with Spelunker HD for PlayStation Network—which Yu describes as “La Mulana meets Nethack”—or side-scrolling platformer meets roguelike—stars a wee Indiana Jones-like adventurer on the hunt for gold, exits and frequent deaths. The XBLA port promises new artwork, new gameplay modes and a new way to shave days off your life.

If you’d like to download the free PC version, you can grab it from Yu’s web site, then greatly anticipate the superior XBLA version.

Or you can just gaze at new screens in Xbox 360 resolution.

Announced in May of last year and shown in footage form at E3 a month later, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine seems to be a title that THQ and developer Relic are taking their own sweet time on. As evidence to that, these are the first two screenshots that have surfaced for the action RPG.

I’d say that if the game’s visuals are this gorgeous, Relic can take as much time as they need to make sure the game plays as good as it looks.

It’s hard to believe that, after being announced in 2006, we’re just now getting our first look at Subversion, the tactical action game from developer Introversion, which just released Darwinia+ on XBLA last week. The screens, recently unveiled on the Introversion forums (with some of the first gameplay details) look … well, they don’t look like a game.

Introversion says that Subversion’s look (which is still unfinished) is based on 3D blueprints, and it looks quite compelling. We can’t seem to get enough of games that don’t look like games — especially Excel. We’ve been into Excel LAN parties since way before it was cool.

I’ve tried to get a nice balance of races and terrain here, to give you an idea of how the game looks running normally, on a normal person’s computer, as it will when you get playing (whenever that may be).

While they show the kind of detil that’s gone into the units and terrain, it doesn’t do a lot of it justice; the space levels, for instance, show asteroids and planets constantly in motion, while there’s nice water and plant effects on the planetary stages.

These images were generated by Zelda fan Ryu-Gi, using Garry’s Mod, a PC utility which allows users to import and edit game characters within Valve’s Source engine. Taking some models from Twilight Princess and dropping them in some fancier environments (including what looks like Left 4 Dead’s woodland), we’re left with what a contemporary Zelda game might have looked like were it not being released on, well, the Wii.

I’m getting chills already, and these are merely still images from 2K’s upcoming sequel. I can only imagine what stumbling across these scenes will be like once I get my hands on the actual game. I’m extremely envious of Totilo at the moment. I’m sure I’m not alone.

A few of these screens we’ve seen previously, but a good majority of them are new, depicting strange, new words; new life, and new civilizations; and people boldly there. Did I just go there? Oh yeah I went there. Boldly.
