LEGO Universe beta constructed, signups begin

If we’ve learned anything about LEGO Universe, it’s that the game should not be dismissed. Yes, it’s an MMO aimed at younger gamers, but did you see the trailer? Whether you did or not, you need to watch it right now. We’ve embedded it directly above this post. There should be a play button right in the middle. Click it. We’ll wait.

Now, having seen that, know this: The LEGO Universe beta is now accepting signups. We suggest you head over to the signup site and sign up immediately. Unfortunately, no one is guaranteed a slot in the beta so, while you’re waiting on confirmation, why not check out some footage of the actual game in action? After that, you can start refreshing your inbox like mad.

I’m digging the look, but don’t remember LEGO figures ever being that shiny. Hopefully NetDevil tone down the sheen before the game’s release.

Dirk, the same guy behind that enormous giant LEGO Mario, has just applied the finishing touches to an enormous LEGO Yoshi. And it’s gross!

Not for the quality of craftsmanship, no, that’s exemplary. It’s because you can see Yoshi’s insides. Like Dirk has hunted Yoshi, captured him, cut him in pieces and is making some kind of hearty stew from his innards.

Poor Yoshi. You may think he deserves to die, but not like this.

Prince of Persia: The Movie: The LEGO Playsets [Lego]

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is getting more than just a big budget film adaptation next year. It’s also getting a LEGO brick adaptation of that very same movie. You know what that means? Chesty Jake LEGO!

According to the LEGO obsessed crew at Brickset, there will be at least five set pieces turned sets of LEGO pieces, featuring various Prince of Persia predicaments. These include Quest Against Time, Hassasins Hide Out, Fight For The Dagger, Battle of Almut and The Ostrich Race. That last set of LEGO appears to be the only one which may contain a shirtless Jake mini-fig, if that’s the sort of thing you might be into.

All five sets—well, save for Hassasins Hide Out, which is not pictured—look like a lot of LEGO fun, but the set to own is clearly The Ostrich Race. It’s not often that LEGO ostriches come along.

“8-Bit Trip,” according to its Swedish creators took 1,500 hours to animate. They pay respect to everything from International Karate on a tape drive to Tetris on the NES, with Pong and Pac-Man in between.

The music was written by Daniel Larsson and the animation was done by Tomas Redigh, of the Swedish electronica duo Rymdreglage.

Yeah, LEGO Half-Life 2 Would Be Pretty Great [Lego]

The guys at LEGO gotta make money. So they license Star Wars, and Harry Potter, and Rock Band. But if they didn’t have to make money, we like to think they’d license Half-Life 2.

Sadly, that probably won’t happen. Ever. So we’ll have to make do with these custom HL2 LEGO figures and playsets, exquisitely crafted by ORRANGE.

Who would have thought our bleak, totalitarian future under the yoke of alien oppressors could be so cute?
