“Zombies in the south”. Simple premise, but sometimes even a simple premise needs a little visual representation before it becomes real. Cue Left 4 Dead 2′s concept art.

“8-Bit Trip,” according to its Swedish creators took 1,500 hours to animate. They pay respect to everything from International Karate on a tape drive to Tetris on the NES, with Pong and Pac-Man in between. The music was written by Daniel Larsson and the animation was done by Tomas Redigh, of the Swedish electronica duo [...]

Balance is a crucial thing for Valve when it comes to Team Fortress. Get a map wrong and there’ll be emails, petitions…hell to pay. Thankfully, most maps get it right! Here’s how they’re made!

Valve have released a couple of videos showing the evolution of a Team Fortress 2 map (Viaduct), from planning to completion, as the team tinkers with not just the look of the map, but the layout and design as well.

The clips are accompanied by an interesting run-down courtesy of Valve’s Corey Peters, which basically boils down to: we do a lot more work getting these maps right than any of you have probably ever realised.

This point ain’t gonna cap itself! [Team Fortress 2]

Here’s a set of screenshots fresh off the Battle.Net asset disc, giving you a better look at the integration between the revamped Battle.net service, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft.

I sat in the Battle.net panel, desperately trying to take crappy shots off of the big screen, and then Blizzard hands me this lovely disc, filled with crystal-clear pictures of Battle.Net, StarCraft 2, and WoW. Think of this gallery as a companion piece to our story on the evolution of Battle.Net.

Lots of Guild Wars 2 art here, plus this key bit from the fact sheet about ArenaNet’s upcoming PC MMO: “While Guild Wars 2 adds a persistent world, it retains the unique characteristics of the original game, including a strong narrative, extensive instanced game play, an anti-grind design philosophy, and strong support for competitive play.”

What would a major gaming show be without new screenshots from a major game by a major developer? Nothing, that’s what. Nothing.

Sega’s Aliens vs Predator is at Gamescom. Know what it reminds me of? You know when bloom lighting first came on the scene, and some games went a little overboard with it? It reminds me of that.

If only we could actually visit an island that sold itself to the world by letting you attach a truck to a helicopter, take off then use the truck as a wrecking ball to blow up a gas station.

This starts off as a developer diary. Don’t let that bother you. For starters, the clip is full of in-game action. And secondly…their Scandinavian accents are just so soothing.
